Having completed her studies in Psychology and Sociology at the University of California Santa Cruz, Ashley Newell has swapped the sunshine of her hometown of Santa Cruz California and set out on what has become a long term South African Adventure.
She started her relationship with South Africa in the Eastern Cape on the stunning Wild Coast in 2009 where she fell in love with the cultural beauty of the country. The adventure continued working with a number of community development organizations across the country including living and working in Langa Township for a year and a half with a youth organization and 5 years project managing social and economic development in the communities of Imizamo Yethu and Hangberg in Hout Bay, Cape Town.
She has a particular passion for youth development, education, and connecting under resourced communities to new technologies. Ashley currently works with Learning Innovation Design Lab managing after school edutech programmes and co-founded the social enterprise Impilo Yethu, expanding inclusive tourism opportunities in her community. Ashley is currently pursuing her Masters in Inclusive Innovation at the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business.
